Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Kmax ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Kmax mobile application and this website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
When you create an account or use the Service, you provide us with your email address, a password (stored only in hashed form), your age, and an optional display name and profile photo. If you sign in on an additional device by scanning a QR code displayed on a device where you are already signed in, the new device receives an authentication token from our servers — no additional personal information is exchanged between your devices.
We also store information you generate by using the Service, such as your watchlist, favorites, and language preferences. Your in-app search history is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the Service, including device identifiers, IP address, operating system version, app version, and language settings.
We do not collect precise location data, and we do not collect special-category personal data such as health information.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, and improve the Service; create and authenticate your account; personalize movie recommendations and the catalog you see; communicate with you about updates and security; and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of these terms.
We may use aggregated or de-identified information for research and product improvement. Such information cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited circumstances described below.
Service providers process information on our behalf under contractual obligations of confidentiality and security. These include cloud hosting and database providers and email-delivery providers for transactional messages such as verification codes.
Third-party movie databases. The catalog you browse — including titles, descriptions, posters, and aggregated ratings — is sourced from public movie databases and rating services such as IMDb and Kinopoisk. Browsing the catalog does not transmit your personal information to these sources.
Authorities or other parties may receive information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kmax, our users, or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or similar transaction.
We do not use your data for cross-app or cross-website tracking or for targeted advertising, and we do not share data with advertising networks.
4. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Different categories of data may be kept for different periods depending on the purpose for which they were collected.
5. Account Deletion
You can delete your account and the personal data associated with it at any time directly within the app by opening Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, account preferences, watchlist, and favorites.
If you no longer have access to the app, you can request account and data deletion by emailing support@kmax.app from the email address associated with your account. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
After deletion, residual copies of some information may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before being permanently erased. We may also retain a minimal record of the deletion request itself (such as the date and an anonymous identifier) to demonstrate compliance with our legal obligations.
6. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), secure credential storage (passwords are stored as salted hashes), and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app, or by contacting us at the email address below.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar laws, we process your data on the legal bases of contract (to provide the Service), legitimate interest (to keep the Service safe and useful), consent (where we ask for it), and legal obligation.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it. Where local law sets a higher minimum age, that age applies.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than the one in which you reside. Where required by law, we put appropriate safeguards in place — such as standard contractual clauses — to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection wherever it is processed.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the changes are material, provide additional notice within the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us at support@kmax.app.
